AppleInsider found a patent filed by Apple in 2011 which describes a system where the induction charging of an iPad would be done using a Smart Cover. The patent, titled “induction charging surface protection integrated” differs from what we can see from other manufacturers.   Where they use a dock connected to power, Apple integrate the transmitter circuit induction directly into the the Smart Cover and as a result create a “mobile” charger.
